These companies had variable success in the production of hybrid cars. Ford one of the first companies who begun to develop hybrid technology in the US, became more successful in this area than others.

GM Hybrids

The GM's hybrids are Chevy Malibu Hybrid, Saturn Vue Hybrid, and Saturn Aura Hybrid. Also they produced Sierra and Silverado hybrid SUVs.

Their created BAS system is working together with the gasoline engine. As a result, fuel economy is minimal. Today GM doesn't produce any hybrid cars at all.

Chrysler has appeared on the hybrid market only for 2 months. Company together with GM and BMW has spent a lot of money to create a dual-mode hybrid engine, but later they abandoned production of Aspen and Durango Hybrid at a time when they almost were built. The economic crisis forced them to cut costs, and hybrid production had come under.

Now all these three companies are far behind Toyota. Toyota is the world leader in hybrid cars area. Nevertheless, there are decent American hybrids. Ford Escape hybrid is recognized the best American hybrid car by the Consumer Report.
